The Home-Maintenance Chicago Homeowners Should Consider This Spring

As we move through the spring season in Chicago, it’s an important time for homeowners to stay up to date with maintenance. From damage done in the winter to spring rain, this is a crucial time for homeowners to inspect their property. Whether you’re getting ready to list your home or plan on spending many more years there, following through with maintenance projects should be a top priority. Here are some of the key items that should make your spring to-do list:

Outside

With the cold and snow of the winter gone, spring is the time to work on the exterior of your home. You’ll want to make sure that gutters are not loose or clogged and that all downspouts drain away from the house. Check the wooden trim around windows and doors with a screwdriver to look for signs of rot. Look up at your roof to see if there are any missing shingles or damage caused by snow. If you have any questions, it’s always a good idea to consult with a professional who can safely assess the situation. This is also a great time to check any outside faucets and showers so that they’re up and running when you need them. If your home is in need of a facelift, a power wash or paint job can quickly revive its curb appeal.

Inside

Interior maintenance is just as important as exterior maintenance. Inside your home, you’ll want to give all your windows a good wash to let in more light. It’s also a good time to test out your AC. You might not need it yet, but it’s better to uncover any issues and get it serviced before the summer heat sets in. It’s smart for homeowners to get in the habit of checking filters regularly. Especially if you didn’t do this in the winter, now is the time. It’s also a good time to make a list of any minor repair projects you may have around the house and start a schedule for when you plan to complete them.

Spring Cleaning

Spring is a great motivator to clean up. With more sunlight and fresh air, people often find it easier to declutter, reorganize, and let go of things they don’t need. Take advantage of this season’s energy and take control of what you have in your home. It’s a great time to go through closets, garages, and other storage places and donate, recycle, or trash things you’re ready to part with. Summer can be a busy time for people, and spring really offers a great window to get this type of work done before their schedules fill up.

Homeowners should get in the habit of regular home maintenance to preserve their property and to keep their home feeling clean and fresh. Seasonal maintenance is one of the best ways to ensure consistency. Don’t let this spring slip by without giving your house the TLC it needs.
