Make your St. Louis Home Airy and Bright

You may have seen pictures of airy and bright homes online or in magazines, and you may have wondered, what you can do to achieve that look. The good news is that there are a few easy methods you can employ to help you bring that style into your own home. Especially now, during the hottest months, making your St. Louis home feel airy and bright can be the perfect respite from the summer heat. Here are some ideas to help you get started:

Put Your Decor in Seasonal Rotation

While it’s common to rotate our clothing with the seasons, it’s less so with our home decor. In the fall and winter, we tend to favor bolder, darker shades to create a cozier atmosphere, but those colors don’t work as well in the summer months. When it gets warmer out, many of us want a space that feels a little (or a lot) lighter. Rotating your decor is a great way to change from season to season without having to do an extensive update. Even things as simple as swapping out artwork, storing away the blankets, and replacing your throw pillows can provide a noticeable transformation.

Brighten Things Up

When you change your decor for the warmer months, stick to creams, whites, and cool greys to make the interior of your home feel like an oasis. Lightening your decor instantly brightens a room. If you like this aesthetic enough to keep year-round, you can even paint your walls a light neutral color (or white) to further add to the tranquility. If you want more color, green plants are the perfect addition. They’ll help break up the neutral colors while also contributing to the airiness of the space.

Add Some Fragrance

We tend to put more emphasis on fragrances in the cooler months. Whether its scented candles or potpourri, for some reason fall and winter get all the attention when it comes to how our home smells. But the effect can be just as important in the spring and summer. Instead of scented candles, an oil diffuser will allow you to spread fresh, light scents throughout your home. Citrus oils are a great option for adding to the airy vibe.

Swap Out Your Window Treatments

Here’s the conundrum, you don’t want all the sunlight in on the hottest summer days, but blocking out your windows won’t contribute to that airy and bright feeling. In many cases, sheer curtains can create just the right balance. They’re also another way to incorporate more light and neutral colors into the room.

Pare Things Down

The last thing you’ll want to do is a good decluttering. It’s tough to make a space feel airy when it’s stuffed full of things. This is a great time to do a big clean-out, storing things you might use at a later date and donating hat you don’t need. The less clutter, the calmer and more open your space will feel.

The airy and bright aesthetic is both calming and energizing, and if it’s what you’re going for, these ideas will certainly help.
